Howdy friends! Hope you have had a great week so far! Today I thought I would share with you the first stop on my home tour! I am going to start with my living room. The room had great potential with wonderful natural light! However, the walls were painted a nasty dark brown. I have nothing against dark brown, but mixed with the stained carpet and overall dirty feel of the place the darkness of the walls wasn’t helping matters! This room was actually one that I had to do the least to!
I started with a simple fresh coat, make that several coats, of a light neutral paint. I used Sherwin Williams Natural Tan and Behr’s Ultra Pure White for the trim. After painting every inch of the space, I had new carpet installed. I can’t remember the pattern, but it is the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot and the color is called Mushroom. The last step was placing all of my collected furniture! As I mentioned before, I had been collecting furniture for quite awhile! I even purchased the very large sectional before ever knowing this home existed! I got lucky that the oversized sofa actually fit perfectly in the space!! Speaking of that monster, it was quite the eyesore before I got my hands on it! I spied it at a local estate sale and fell in love! It was so unusual and in the right space, in the right fabric, it could be great!! So before I could talk myself out of it, I bought it! It sat in storage for about a year.
Once I closed on the house, I decided on the polka dot fabric because who doesn’t want a super large polka dotted sectional!! I first got quotes on having the sofa fully reupholstered and after having the wind knocked out after hearing the price, I contacted my slipcover seamstress to make a slipcover instead! She is AMAZING and made it look like it actually was upholstered. I always have to lift it up to prove to people it really is a slipcover. The room really comes together with pops of dark teal and rustic touches. I wanted the space to be bright, neutral, and have southern charm. I think the space has just that! Enjoy!
